Our World-Changing Clients Lead the Way

Our clients are boundary-breakers, visionaries and change-makers.  They span a variety of industries including natural foods, consumer products, technology and regenerative agriculture.  One thing is for sure: our clients are leaders in their industries, working to create a more healthy and just planet.

Here’s what our clients have to say about working with us.

I had the pleasure of working with David at World of Good and got to know his intellect, passion, and commitment to using business to support those in society who are looking for an opportunity to participate in a rewarding life. After I joined Straus Family Creamery, I asked David to help us develop a long-range pro forma financial statement to support our investing in a new manufacturing facility. His insightful strategic questions, combined with his outstanding quantitative and modeling skills, helped us create the model we used through all of the financing for the project. The model also helped us determine the capacities we would need for the new facility. Construction of the facility is now underway and will be completed this year, allowing us to continue to grow and expand our business. David delivers the highest quality work, is an inspiring individual, and is very fun to work with. I can wholeheartedly recommend David for any project and/or position.

— Robert McGee, President and COO of Straus Family Creamery

We saw a clear need among some of our investees for additional financial planning and analysis resources. However, I was a bit skeptical about project-based support (vs ongoing support). It's often the case with project-based support, that the outsourced CFO is unable to go deep enough to understand the business and truly add value. The project ended up being extremely helpful as it provided financial clarity to the investee as well as to investors. We were able to get a clear sense of runway, cash needs and stress points. The analysis also contributed significantly to getting the investor group over the finish line. We'd happily refer Do Good CFO to others because of their ability to deliver quick and high-quality work, and - just as importantly - their ability to build an effective and respectful relationship with CEOs.

— Aner Ben-Ami, Founding Partner at Candide Group

For 10 years, David and I have provided consulting and advisory services to a shared client. Although David’s focus is finance, his contributions to other critical areas of the business’ needs have contributed to the company’s success in many ways. David approaches challenges and opportunities with passion, enthusiasm, and with a spirit of collaboration and care. David has worked closely with the Founders, Finance Manager and myself as CEO level advisor, in competently addressing finance, accounting, reporting systems, bank and shareholder relationships, capitalization requirements, and many other issues over the years of successful growth and improvement for our client. David would be an excellent resource for any company that needs support in growing and improving their business in areas of finance and beyond.

— Neil Blomquist, former CEO of Spectrum Organics

I can’t speak highly enough about David. For over a decade he has been amongst my closest collaborators.  First as my business partner and co-founder at World of Good where we launched and scaled nationally in channels like Whole Foods and Hallmark and then when we partnered with and were eventually acquired by eBay. And now as my CFO in launching Saveup.com. Every step along the way, David has been my go-to, trusted thought partner, strategic financial brain and friend. He has the head and the heart, the good judgment and strategic sense to be an asset to any growing venture. He has impeccable integrity and truly cares about the mission of the businesses he builds and the entrepreneurs he works with.

— Priya Haji, Co-founder & CEO, SaveUp and World of Good

I would enthusiastically recommend David as a CFO. I have known David for nearly 15 years beginning when he was a co-founder and CFO at World of Good and my organization was their first lender.  Since then, I have tracked with David though several of the companies he has worked with, some of which I have invested in as well.  From the investor perspective, he is super easy to work with and brings both depth and nuance to the financial models he develops. I also know that many of the social entrepreneurs we work with in common have found deep value in the long-term relationships they have developed with David, likely because he has an excellent head for balancing mission and financial rigor, which is often tough to find in a CFO.

— Esther Park, CEO, Cienega Capital

I first worked with David in 2009 when he was the CFO of World of Good and I was at RSF Social Finance. Through all of our interactions in the past eleven years he's demonstrated impressive financial acumen, unimpeachable ethics and an unyielding commitment to impact through business. He's been in the trenches with early-stage mission-driven companies and he knows how to work with and advise CEOs to be successful. Smart entrepreneurs hire a part-time CFO and avoid making big mistakes that would cost them dearly. Really smart entrepreneurs hire David

— Ted Levinson, CEO Beneficial Returns, former Head of Lending RSF Social Finance

I have known David for over 15 years. Five of those years were spent starting and growing a Fair Trade retail brand together. As CFO of World of Good, David helped grow the company from a small team the basement of an incubator to an award-winning, venture-funded company that worked with artisans in over 70 countries and distributed its products in over two thousand retailers across America before being acquired by eBay.

While David is a great CFO and numbers guy, what makes him a tremendous asset to any team is that he really understands strategy and how to navigate the big picture. He not only focuses on the bottom line but he is deeply passionate about the mission and impact of his work. I trust him completely and I think any company with a triple bottom line would be lucky to have him as a part of their C-suite.

— Siddharth Sanghvi, Co-Founder World of Good; former VP Marketing Back to the Roots

I have worked with David in various capacities over the past 15 years. As CFO at World of Good, he led budget development using a proactive, collaborative, and strategic decision-making process that resulted in WOG being a sustainable and/or thriving organization. He managed and forecasted the immediate and longer-term cash needs of the organization and also contributed to strategic planning that ensured that our product lines and programs and were optimally supported. More recently, he and his team have supported ImpactMapper with our accounting needs. They streamlined our bookkeeping process, handled the audit process, and put the right systems and controls in place. David is a solid finance professional with a killer combination of strong analytical skills, great communication skills and curiosity and sound judgment that leads to decisions that have a meaningful and positive impact on the company.

— Jagadha Sivan, COO Impact Mapper

Having worked with David for over 10+ years, he has been a true asset to the development and growth of Lotus Foods. Over those 10 years, the company has grown substantially and David’s advice and guidance have been critical. As a proven and reliable performer, we have every reason to wholeheartedly recommend David and his company Do Good CFO.

David helped us with more thorough vetting of accounting fundamentals, more disciplined approach to cash flow, and preparation in advance of investor/lender capital raise. He also worked with us on navigating and creating hypothetical downside financial scenarios required by primary and subordinated debt holders after the 2008 economic upheaval.

Having David in place was fortuitous when an employee rising through our ranks moved into the role of Finance Director. This increased our confidence in appointing an in-house candidate to such a responsible position.  David was able to provide mentorship and a steady hand, based on his experience and resourcefulness, which contributed to the Finance Director’s growth and success and the company’s stability.

— Caryl Levine, Co-Founder, Co-CEO, Lotus Foods

As a first-time CEO without a strong financial background, I navigated the first four years of my business running accounting and financial management/ strategy basically by myself. Throughout this time, I didn't realize that there was a lot I didn't know or understand about our finances. I fortunately brought David and DoGoodCFO onto my team in late 2014 upon request by an investor for a specific modeling project that was beyond my capacity. As we started working together, I was astounded by his intuitive and detail-oriented approach to financial strategy. He uncovered significant improvements required for proper financial management of the company, and after careful consideration I and the board decided to make the investment to bring him on as our long-term part-time CFO after the project ended. It was the best decision I could have possibly made for the company.

David and I have worked closely now for 6 years. He has created enormous value for the company as it grows, while helping me make sure we stay focused on our business fundamentals and maintain healthy cash levels. David delivers impactful results efficiently and effectively. He quickly integrated a team of affordable accountants into our operations and helped us onboard into new financial management software and systems. He was an invaluable part of our Series A capital raise; we simply would not have raised the money without his expertise and contributions. He astutely navigates and puts out fires across our complex multi-national business as a respected leader on the team. He sticks by my side through thick and thin, and is a phenomenal support to me as CEO.

Even though David is "virtual" and part time, he is fully integrated into our company leadership team and works closely with many team members on a wide variety of financial management and strategy components of the business. He has a unique leadership and communication style that reflects his strong emotional intelligence and commitment to the company's social mission. As a woman CEO, I deeply appreciate David's empathetic and collaborative approach. David recently won the quarterly Values Champion award at Uncommon Cacao, voted upon by the full leadership team as the person who best lived and represented our company values. I highly recommend working with David and DoGoodCFO to any entrepreneur or CEO who is looking for meaningful, results-driven, values-aligned support on financial management and strategy.
